- About Us
AI for the Rest of Us was founded to bridge the gap between the media’s sensationalized coverage and the tech industry’s hype machine.
If you’re someone who wants to learn about AI but don’t know where to start, this is for you. If you’re looking for something without the technical complexities, this is for you. If you’re tired of getting lost in the hype, this is for you.
We’re quite literally for the rest of us.
We’ve launched with a bi-weekly newsletter and will eventually expand into podcasts, tutorials, etc. Everything we put out there is meant to help you on your journey of understanding this thing called artificial intelligence.
It’s worth noting that this is not for some people. This is not for experts, nor is it for people who want to read product reviews and breaking news. This is also not for software developers or engineers – and certainly not for AI specialists. Oh and btw, if any of you happen to stumble upon us, you’ll have to forgive us for butchering what you do and not giving your work the credit it probably deserves (assuming you’re one of the good ones 😊).
For those who are sticking around, here’s what you’ll get from AI for the Rest of Us:
Unbiased perspective: We have a grounded view of AI, which means we acknowledge its potential and address the concerns and ethical considerations.
Approachable content: Complex AI concepts are explained in simple, relatable terms – and our hope is that the subject is approachable for non-techies.
Real-world focus: We emphasize practical applications and real-world impact – not theoretical possibilities. Well, we occasionally get theoretical, but we promise to let you know when we do.
Structured learning: We produce organized, well-thought-out content that takes you on a journey of understanding AI.
Insider insights: We work with some of the biggest companies and brands to help them understand and implement AI into their businesses. That experience is infused throughout.
Cultural context: We love to explore AI's broader implications on society and culture, going beyond just the technological stuff.
Empowerment through knowledge: By educating you about AI, we hope to equip you to make informed decisions and prepare you to engage with the technology confidently.
From our Founder and Writer…
Back in November of 2023, I started a company called The Known Collective where we work with Fortune 100 companies to help them understand and implement emerging technology into their workflows and projects.
Our clients want to leverage AI but don’t know where to start. They want to incorporate AI, but don’t know how to do it. They want to build AI products, but don’t know the first thing about doing that. We do all of that for them.
Throughout the process of working with these teams, I’ve learned that most people are intimidated by – and confused about – AI because they don’t get how it works. I can relate – it’s complicated stuff.
As my team and I built tools and programs to help our clients grasp the technology and learn to use it, I began helping friends and family do the same. I realized that most non-technical people out in the world have an interest in understanding (and using) AI, but don’t know where to turn. They might prompt ChatGPT once or twice and simply give up because it was underwhelming experience. Or they might come across doom-and-gloom prophecies in their feeds and think, damn, I don’t want to know about this stuff. Or they might just be tired of reading about python and thinking they’re talking about snakes.
Either way, I saw a need for non-technical to understand and use AI, so I started AI for the Rest of Us.
You might be wondering, “OK great, but what makes you qualified?” Well, my first response comes from something my dad taught me early: talk is cheap. I hope the content we’re creating proves that we’re qualified for this.
My second response is simply the cheap talk:
I’ve spent 20 years working to connect people to brands and products and vice versa. This is similar in many ways … I’m connecting a complicated product (i.e. AI) to people with (a) little or no understanding of the technology and (b) a huge capacity and desire to understand it.
I do not work in the tech industry, nor have I ever. I think they call this turning a flaw into a feature 😉.
That said, I am currently building two tech products with some amazingly smart people who know this world backwards and forwards. They keep me in check by reading my stuff before it goes out.
Companies hire us to explain these complicated things in simple ways, and we’re actively working with some amazing companies to help them understand and implement the technology. So while my experience might be narrow, it’s getting deeper.
I keep up by reading 12-14 AI-focused newsletters per day; I regularly read the big academic papers concerning AI technology; and I’ve read (or am currently reading) the popular and obscure books about AI. All of this might sound pretentious, but if you could only see how slowly I read…
I write every piece of content, and if/when that ever changes, you will know.
We are not taking on advertisers or doing any referral programs. You can trust what we share.
And lastly, I’m a pragmatist when it comes to AI. I don’t believe it’ll destroy humanity, and I don’t believe it’ll save it. Humans are already well adept at doing both.

Excited to have you part of the community!
