AI Goes to School [Part I]
How AI Technology is Changing our Education System

Hello friends,
Welcome to Edition #8 of AI for the Rest of Us. For all our new members joining us this week, we’re thrilled to have you part of the community.
This week we’re starting a three-part series on AI and Education – a big topic for all of us because of the education system’s outsized impact on just about every part of our society and culture.
Here’s the plan:
This week is Part I and we’re focusing on the landscape of AI in education. For Part II, we’ll zoom in on students and parents. And finally in Part III, we’ll focus on teachers and administrators.
If any of these categories don’t directly apply to you, don’t skip it. I’m writing these for all of us. And hey, if you know people who might benefit from any one of them, hit that forward button and pass it on. Just make sure to ask them to subscribe and join the rest of us.
Here we go...

In the Know
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
Poet W.B. Yeats* dropped that wisdom on us long before AI came on the scene. And it couldn’t be more apropos to the situation we’re in right now with our education system.
Now, before we get deep into said situation, let me start with a quick back story. When we started AI for the Rest of Us, we wanted to look beyond the headlines and really dig into a topic, so you, the reader, could get a clearer picture and form an educated opinion. I would say that we’ve gone deeper on this topic than any so far because we found that the headlines and the news out there are rife with exaggeration. We also realized there’s just too much to cover in one edition. Oh, and no big deal, but the experts and the heads of these tech companies building these AI products seem to think this technology will affect our education system in profound ways. I don’t disagree.
